In a shocking revelation, sources close to the One Piece cast have confirmed that actors Iñaki Godoy and Charithra Chandran are indeed friends who also happen to be paid to pretend to fight pirates on television. "We're just a group of extroverts who like to hang out and make funny jokes," said Chandran in an interview, clearly trying to hide the fact that they're actually a well-oiled machine of comedic genius.
Godoy, a self-proclaimed adult (he's 21 now, apparently), was thrilled to celebrate his birthday on set with fireworks and a Catan-themed cake. Because what's more exciting than blowing things up and playing board games at work? "It was a real team-building experience," he said, completely seriously.
But what's really impressive is Godoy's dedication to learning Japanese, which he picked up in a span of two months while living with a host family. He's now conversational, can read and write hiragana and katakana, and even tries to maintain his level by taking occasional lessons and pretending to be interested in anime. "It's really hard to keep up the charade," he admitted, before quickly adding that he's actually just really passionate about Japanese culture.
And then there was the sailing trip, which Godoy took because, you know, method acting and all that jazz. But it turns out that life on a boat is not exactly his cup of tea – who knew? "I thought it would be cool to say I sailed across the Caribbean like Luffy," he said with a sheepish grin. "But honestly, it was just boring."
